Murder!
I wrote this in Notes and never saw it again.
Two more murders at the hands of ICE. And counting. Seems like our U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has a bad habit of treating traffic stops as capital crimes punishable by death, administered with dispatch, and televised.
News media parsed this horror, thought before to be unthinkable, approaching it as though it were a riddle within a mystery. An impossible maze. Solemn in-house explainations and editorials were broadcast along with the usual boilerplate blather of the usual suspects.
The good guys and the bad guys were soon identified. Depending. Now viewers and faithful fans could decide who to root for and who to root against. It became a compelling gladiatorial event brought to us by GEICO, Hyundai and Bitcoin bros. Spoiler alert. The bean counters won again. Hands down.
There was no maze. There was no riddle. Lost in the cacophony of platitudes, nonsense and politically motivated dissembling there was a simple answer. Terror. Terror, an intentional strategy crafted by Steven Miller to make America white again, ICE being his paramilitary wing.
Unidentifiable masked men flying from unmarked SUVs conducting operations normally considered criminal shielded by Miller and his agency well reported and publicized. Grist for his mill. Continuously terrorize some and you will terrorize the many. Continuously terrorize the border and you will terrorize the neighborhoods. I doubt the murders were scripted, but they did serve his purpose.

And when you remember that the Roman Gladiators were mostly working-class men and often enslaved.
The power of continuous terror in making the rest of us helpless; hopeless; powerless!
